On 15thFebruary, 2014 Saturday evening, Guwahati saw an unique event. Leading singers, actors, sports persons, politicians all came forward to promote Art of the region and for a cancer cause. Organised byTrend MMS, the socio-cultural Trust –Odyssey - An Exhibition & Auctioning of Art on 15th February, at Hotel Brahmaputra Ashoka, Guwhati’s leading citizens joined hand to promote Art Auctioning and Charity dinner for the first time. Work of leading artistes such as Nilpawan Barua, NaniBorpuzari, Kishore Das of Assam, S. Benedict of Meghalaya etc. were displayed and auctioned. The proceeds of the charity dinner and donations from various people amounting Rs. 3 lakh were handed over to Dipsikha Cancer Care Foundation.
The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Jitesh Khosla, Chief Secretary along with Mr. Sanjay Krishna, Principal Secretary, Culture, Mr. B. P. Muktieh, CMD, NEDFi and Dr. Lakhinandan Bora. The event witnessed large gathering of political leaders, bureaucrats, industrialists, intellectuals and media personalities coming forward for the cancer cause.
The colorful cultural programme in the evening included an Skiton cancer awareness by Dwarf team of performers trained by NSD graduate, PabitraRabha from Tangla. Leading singers Zubilli, Dipak Sharma enthralled the audience followed by ethnic fashion show by North East top designers including Yana Ngoba, Dhiraj Deka, Garima Garg, Barsha Aditya Singh, Manimala Mahanta Ahmed etc. Top celebrities like Everest climber Anshu Jemsenpa, Manish Deka, Tarun Saikia, Mr. Universe Mahadeb Deka, World known Wrestler Bhabjit Choudhury, Actor Barasha Rani Bishya, Tanvi Sarma, Aimee Barua etc. participated in the event.
Mr. Mahanta informed that to promote Art and social cause, similar events would be organised with the support of the local artistes and perfomers. Mr. Mahanta also informed North East Festival which was a big hit last year at Delhi would be organised again for four days in Delhi during November would also showcase Art creations of North East to give a national platform.Chief Organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta informed that for the first time art auctioning was done with an apple photography by Waheeda Ahmed was bought by Bajrang Lohia for Rs.60,000.
