The State is mainly comprised with three geographical fragments the Brahmaputra valley, the Barak valley and the North Cachar Hills. Assam has a sturdy communication with the other parts of the country for which it is called the gateway of Northeast India and would be the gateway to ASEAN Countries after the new projects being implemented under Look East Policy.

Assam shares its boundary with 6 Northeastern States Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura and also with West Bengal. Along with this Assam also shares two international boundaries with Bhutan and Bangladesh.

Connected by an infinite chain of pearly threads, intricate as a spider’s web the North-East India represents 8 states - Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura which is considered as India’s most distinct and spectacular region. Spread over an approximate expanse of 78000 sq. km. Assam represents a true collage of colours of ethnic groups with their diverse language and culture but all bound together by a chord of unison.
