The festival is a ground for celebration of traditional sports, traditional boat race, etc. and at the same time preserving them. Besides it is recognized as one of the biggest musical festivals of India.

The focus of Rongali has been on two folds, building bridges amongst the tribes and communities of Assam through culture and showcasing the state in terms of textiles and tourism potential. Over the years, Rongali has presented spectacular handloom and textile potential of Assam, and presented a platform for weavers, artisans of the region for doing brisk business, a fashion platform which has created many top designers of Assam. Some of Assam’s top Designer such as Sanjkuta Dutta, Bidyut Bikash Bhagwati and many others has started their career through Rongali. Likely several top textile entrepreneurs have started their career from this platform.

This year around 20 of India’s best musical talents would congregate and perform during Rongali making it biggest musical festival of North East India.The food festival would present delicacies of Assam and North East with Naga, Assamese, Manipuri and North India delicacies. Assam, a land of diverse culture, beautiful landscape is blessed with huge resources. Various tribes and communities, world renowned One Horned Rhino, the biggest river island in the world Majuli, the largest concentration of wild life sanctuaries, highest tea generating region in the world etc. Assam has plenty to offer. Assam is the gateway to other Northeastern states of Meghalaya, Arunachal, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram. With five national parks, two of which are designated World Natural Heritage Sites by UNESCO, and several wildlife and bird sanctuaries, Assam is a land for wildlife enthusiasts.

At the heart of its mind-boggling biodiversity is the rich topography of Assam with its lush hills and valleys dissected by the majestic Brahmaputra and its many tributaries. Assam is home to over 180 species of mammals, including rare and endangered species like the great Indian one-horned rhinoceros, the royal Bengal tiger, the golden langur and hillock gibbon, and a spectacular range of avifauna. The state has conserved the one-horned Indian rhinoceros from near extinction, along with the pygmy hog, tiger and various species of birds.

It provides one of the last wild habitats for the Asian Elephant. The Kaziranga and the Manas National Parks are designated as World heritage sites. Connected by an infinite chain of pearly threads, intricate as a spider's web the North-East India represents 8 states - Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura which is considered as India’s most distinct and spectacular region.
